I think everyone should have the job of waiting tables at least once in their life.
To be a good waiter you need to learn true empathy quickly. You need to understand your customer within the first few seconds of meeting them and then cater to their style.
You learn how to communicate effectively and politely while under stress (something I’m still getting better at).
On top of this you need to learn how to manage your time effectively in order to provide good service. Little details matter, if you’re walking back to the kitchen without something in your hand that needs washed you’ve wasted an opportunity to be more effective at your job.
