I’ve been documenting different parts of my life for the past 6+ years. More recently this has been in a journal, prior to that I would just send myself emails. Nothing to details, just notes about what I’ve been up to, the day to day happenings of my life. All completely private (well maybe the online stuff not 100% due to security vulnerabilities…).
Today I was looking back through some of these emails. Just browsing to see what was happening in 2014. It was extremely eye opening, events and meetings that I have completely forgotten about have come back in crystal clear detail. It warmed my heart.
I posted some time ago about sending emails to my kids, but I think sending yourself notes (or journaling) can be extremely useful. You can reflect and ensure your life is heading where you want it. Or, like I did today, just look back and smile.
I can’t remember where I heard this (maybe Gary Vaynerchuk) but as it stands most people don’t know who their great grandparents are. For sure they don’t know who their great great grandparents are. That is going to change. Our great great great great great grandchildren are going to be able to know who we are (assuming you have some sort of presence on social media). I’m not saying this is a good or bad thing. But it’s incredible.
