I’m not sure where I originally heard this saying.
“Do you ever notice when you have a problem you’re always there?”
In other words, when we get upset or angry it comes from within us (hence we are always there).
Recently I’ve been trying to wait five seconds to respond to someone if I’m getting upset. During this time I remember whatever feelings I am feeling is coming from me. Or even just count to five.
It works really well!
And yes, I use this more with my kids than anyone else (especially in the world of social distancing and staying at home). They are at the age when testing my patience is their favourite sport.
