Automated emails

Over personalization of marketing automation is weird.

If I opt into an email list it’s because I enjoy the content being delivered.

Starting with “Hi Bryan” is fine. But when the message feels personal, is asking for a reply, but still looks automated, it’s a terrible combination. It feels like the sender is trying to trick you.

There is two ways to overcome this.

  1. Actually reach out to the person directly (no automation).
  2. Send a plaintext email, so it doesn’t feel like a newsletter.
